Water in Africa Through Everyday Responsiveness aka W.A.T.E.R. Wine into W.A.T.E.R. 2009; a wonderful series of celebrations and fund raising events was held in Oct, 2009. We are thrilled to announce income of over $100,000 which will finance 8 new wells, fix and improve the Our Lady of Annuciation Cathedral water system AND put a rain water catchment system in Bowku, (the only village we have not been able to provide water). Guest Global Solidarity coordinator for Catholic Relief Services Thomas Awiapo from Ghana put a face on the continuing collaboration of St. John Vianney, W.A.T.E.R. AND CRS.
For the FOURTH year, the team of well wishers who traveled to Ghana had an incredible experience. Gratitude, humility, joy, deep reflection, tension in our hearts with what we saw, hospitality.. there aren't enough words to express the scope of our individual and collective feelings. We continued to support Colwod women's enterprise, Global Mommas fair trade clothing store and the community of Wiaga in the bush. Catholic Relief Services hosted us and we have a deep sense of awe in witnessing how this organization of OURS manifests God's love to all people based on 'need not creed'. CRS surely gives hope to a world in need. 2010 dates are July 21 to Aug 5. There are places left. An experience that will change your life awaits you.
Youth Migrant Project and Winter Missions.
SJV youth and chaperones spent a week working with the Hispanic population in the BUrlington, Washington area. The food bank was supported and time was spent in children of migrant workers' classrooms. It was an extraordinary week with inspired and inspiring work by our youth group from seventh graders to high incoming high school seniors and even a collegiate person here and there! Enormous thanks to Mary Goodwin for continuing to lead this awesome Holy Spirit Filled week! Permission slip link. All our Saturday food bank and nursing home days were blessed. Remaining 2010 date for Saturday events is Feb 27 with an overnight retreat at Whidbey Island. YMP 2010 dates are August 1 to 7. Blessings and thanks to all those who drive and chaperone these opportunities for our youth to put our Catholic faith into action.

St. Vincent de Paul - President Amy Buckley. Giving Tree 2009 provided help for 50 families. This included food for a week and, in most cases, gifts for the family. The great need continues, please consider gifting an extra $1 (or more) a week for St. Vincent's coffers so they can help others. Imagine what those collective dollars can do!
